あたらしいandいい [Adjective]

A student asked me why Atarashii does not conjugate as Atarash-yokunai in nagative. Because "Atarashii" ends with double i's. This kind of misunderstanding happens when elementary Learners learn not in hiragana but in alphabet.followng is my answer.
あたらしい is written alphabetically as ATARASHII. And いいis as ii. What is the difference between あたらしいand いい gramatically. Atarashii ends with double i's. But Atarashii is [atarashi-i]. And" ii " is [i-i]. [shi] and [i] sound independently Atarashii. "SHI" and "i" are independent sylables. So [i] sound is only one in Atarashii. When written in Hiragana, it is あたらしい. Apparently Atarashii has only one い, independent sylable. On the other hand, as for いい、 the two [i]s are pronounced independently、and two of [i] sylables.

かわいいand いい [Adjective]

かわいい、pretty, and いい、good are adjectives. かわいいconjgates as かわいい(です)、かわいくて、かわいくない(です)、かわいくなくて、かわいかった(です). いいconjugates only いい(です)、and is used colloquially So いいnever conjugates いくて、いくない、いかった、いくなかった. Then how いいconjugates? いいconjugates よい(です)、よくて、よくない(です)、よくなくて、よくなかった(です).
We say: 「いい(よい) ひとに あえて よかったね。」It's good to have met a nice person.
